Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how Prosody Limited ("we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies in connection with speaking.app (the "Service").
Who we are
Prosody Limited Place of registration: Ireland CRO registration number: 811167 Registered office: Venture Hub, 136 Capel Street, Dublin, D01 T2C9 Email: hello@speaking.app
What are cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by websites and apps. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and other techniques that store or access information on your device.
Cookies we use
Strictly necessary (no consent required)
We use the following essential cookies and local storage to operate the Service. These are exempt from consent requirements under S.I. No. 336/2011 because they are strictly necessary to provide the Service you have requested.
| Purpose | Technology | Type | Duration |
|---------|-----------|------|----------|
| Authentication | Supabase authentication and session storage (which may include names beginning with sb-) | First-party cookie / localStorage | Session, refreshed on use, removed on logout |
| Security | CSRF and fraud prevention tokens | First-party cookie | Session |
| User preferences | Theme, language, UI settings | localStorage | Persistent until cleared by you |
Analytics and tracking
We do not use analytics cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, third-party marketing cookies, cross-site tracking, retargeting, session replay, or heatmaps.
We use PostHog for product analytics. PostHog is configured to operate without cookies and without local storage on your device (memory-only persistence). PostHog is hosted in the European Union (eu.i.posthog.com), respects Do Not Track, excludes IP addresses from the events it captures, and does not run session recording, heatmaps, or surveys. Because PostHog does not store information on your device, it falls outside the consent requirement under S.I. No. 336/2011.
Third-party cookies (Paddle checkout only)
When you open the Paddle checkout or billing portal to make a payment, manage your subscription, or request a refund, Paddle (our merchant of record) may set cookies on your device for payment processing, fraud detection, and session management. These cookies are set by Paddle, not by us, and are governed by Paddle's own privacy and cookie policies. Paddle cookies appear only when you interact with the Paddle checkout or billing interface.
Do I need to consent?
Because we use only strictly necessary cookies and do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies, we do not require cookie consent for our own cookies. The DPC guidance confirms that consent-exempt cookies do not require a cookie banner.
If Paddle's checkout sets non-essential cookies when you initiate a payment, Paddle is responsible for obtaining any required consent within its own checkout flow.
Your choices
You can control cookies via your browser or device settings, including blocking or deleting cookies. If you block essential cookies (such as authentication tokens), you will not be able to log in or use the Service.
Legal basis
In Ireland, cookies and similar technologies are regulated under the European Communities (Electronic Communications Networks and Services) (Privacy and Electronic Communications) Regulations 2011 (S.I. No. 336/2011). Consent is required for non-essential cookies. Essential cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service requested by the user are exempt from the consent requirement. Where cookies involve personal data, GDPR also applies.
Changes
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last Updated" date above when we do.
