This Refund and Cancellation Policy explains how to cancel your subscription to speaking.app, how one-time purchases work, and how refunds work.
Who we are

Payments and merchant of record
Payments for speaking.app subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed by Paddle, which acts as the merchant of record.
This means Paddle:
- processes payments,
- issues receipts,
- handles taxes where applicable,
- processes refunds (with our approval where required).
We do not store full payment card details.
Free trials
Some plans (currently Coaching Workspaces) may include a free trial. A trial gives you access at no charge, and you will not be billed until the trial period ends and you have not cancelled. Individual Pro plans do not include a free trial; the free tier and the one-time Week Pass are the ways to try the Service.
One-time purchases: Week Pass and Pro Pass
Some purchases are one-time payments, not subscriptions. They do not renew, and there is nothing to cancel to stop future charges.
Week Pass. A Week Pass is a one-time purchase of 7 days of Pro access that starts immediately when you buy, at your express request. Access ends automatically after 7 days and does not renew. There is no recurring subscription to cancel and no automatic refund for unused days. Any separate statutory cancellation request is handled under "Statutory cancellation rights for consumers" below.
Legacy Pro Pass. Legacy Pro Pass purchases generated individual redeemable access codes immediately. If a legacy Pro Pass purchase is refunded, codes that have not yet been redeemed are deactivated.
Flexible Pro Pass. A flexible Pro Pass reserves access for a group and creates one invitation. The upfront payment is a minimum commitment and covers the number of activations shown at checkout. It is not automatically reduced solely because fewer participants activate. Each additional successful activation above the included number is billable at the agreed unit price, up to the maximum additional subtotal accepted at checkout. Closing invitations early does not reverse activations that have already completed.
If a consumer validly exercises a statutory cancellation right, we will calculate any amount due under applicable law. This may include retaining or charging the proportionate value of a service supplied before we received the cancellation request, where the law permits. Statutory rights remain unaffected.
The "Refunds", "Statutory cancellation rights for consumers", and "Refund processing" sections below apply to one-time purchases as well as subscriptions.
How to cancel your subscription
You can cancel at any time by:
- In the app: Settings -> Billing -> Manage Subscription, then follow the cancellation steps in the Paddle billing portal.
- Emailing us at hello@speaking.app with the subject "Cancel Subscription".
- Using the Paddle billing portal link included in Paddle emails.
What happens when you cancel:
- Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period.
- You will not be charged for the next billing period once cancellation is effective.
Cancelling your subscription stops future renewals. It does not automatically create a refund for the current billing period. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, including under any statutory cancellation right, contact us at hello@speaking.app and we will review the request under this policy and applicable law.
Refunds
Refunds are provided in the following circumstances:
- where required by applicable law (for example, cancellation rights or remedies under the Consumer Rights Act 2022),
- where the Service was materially defective at the time of purchase and we are unable to remedy the defect within a reasonable period,
- at our discretion as a goodwill gesture.
If you would like a refund, email hello@speaking.app with your account email and identify the purchase. A reason can help us review a discretionary request, but you do not need to give a reason to exercise a statutory cancellation right.
If you are a consumer, any statutory cancellation rights or remedies you may have under applicable law remain unaffected by this policy.
Statutory cancellation rights for consumers
If you are a consumer and you purchased online, Part 5 of the Irish Consumer Rights Act 2022 generally gives you 14 days to cancel a distance contract without giving a reason. The start and end of that period, and whether the right applies or may end early, depend on the type of contract and the circumstances.
To exercise a statutory cancellation right, email hello@speaking.app before the applicable deadline with a clear statement that you wish to cancel the contract and identify the purchase. You may use the model cancellation notice in our Terms and Conditions, but you do not have to use that form.
At checkout, we ask you to expressly request immediate access to the Service. Where a service will be fully supplied during the cancellation period, we also ask you to acknowledge that any statutory right to cancel ends once the service has been fully supplied. Your request and acknowledgment are recorded against your account, including the applicable version and timestamp. We can produce that record on request.
Where the Consumer Rights Act 2022 applies and you validly cancel after requesting immediate supply, we may retain or charge a proportionate amount for the service supplied before you told us that you wished to cancel, if the Act permits. We will refund any balance that the law requires. If a service has already been fully supplied after your express request and acknowledgment, your statutory right to cancel that service ends. These rules are separate from ordinary subscription cancellation, which only stops the next renewal unless a refund is otherwise due.
Refund processing
If a refund is approved (whether under statute or at our discretion):
- We aim to process refund requests within 2 business days.
- Paddle will process the refund to your original payment method, typically within 5 to 7 business days (banks and card issuers may take additional time).
Where a statutory refund is due because you validly exercise a cancellation right under Irish or EU consumer law, we will reimburse you without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we are informed of your cancellation, unless the law permits otherwise.
Problems with the Service
If the Service is not working as expected, contact support at hello@speaking.app.
If you are a consumer, you may have statutory rights and remedies regarding digital content and digital services under the Consumer Rights Act 2022, depending on the circumstances.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last Updated" date above when we do.
