Who we are
Prosody Limited Place of registration: Ireland CRO registration number: 811167 Registered office: Venture Hub, 136 Capel Street, Dublin, D01 T2C9 Email: hello@speaking.app
Payments and merchant of record
Payments for speaking.app subscriptions are processed by Paddle, which acts as the merchant of record.
This means Paddle:
- processes payments,
- issues receipts,
- handles taxes where applicable,
- processes refunds (with our approval where required).
We do not store full payment card details.
Free trial
We offer a free trial so you can evaluate the Service before committing to a paid subscription. The trial gives you access to the Service at no charge. You will not be billed until the trial period ends and you have not cancelled.
How to cancel your subscription
You can cancel at any time by:
- In the app: Settings -> Billing -> Cancel Subscription (if available).
- Emailing us at hello@speaking.app with the subject "Cancel Subscription".
- Using the Paddle billing portal link included in Paddle emails.
What happens when you cancel:
- Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period.
- You will not be charged for the next billing period once cancellation is effective.
Cancelling your subscription stops future renewals. It does not automatically create a refund for the current billing period. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, including under any statutory cancellation right, contact us at hello@speaking.app and we will review the request under this policy and applicable law.
Refunds
Refunds are provided in the following circumstances:
- where required by applicable law (for example, statutory cancellation rights under S.I. No. 484/2013, or remedies under the Consumer Rights Act 2022),
- where the Service was materially defective at the time of purchase and we are unable to remedy the defect within a reasonable period,
- at our discretion as a goodwill gesture.
If you would like a refund, email hello@speaking.app with your account email and the reason for your request.
If you are a consumer, any statutory cancellation rights or remedies you may have under applicable law remain unaffected by this policy.
Statutory cancellation rights for consumers
If you are a consumer and you purchased online, Irish and EU consumer law (S.I. No. 484/2013) generally provides a 14-day right to cancel a distance contract without giving a reason. Whether and when that right may be lost depends on the legal classification of the contract (service, digital content, or digital service) and the consents given at checkout.
At checkout, we ask you to consent to immediate access to the Service and to acknowledge the effect this may have on your cancellation rights. Your consent is recorded against your account, including the version of these terms in force at the time and the timestamp of your consent. We can produce that record on request.
Where applicable law permits, if you requested immediate performance and then cancel during the cancellation period, we may charge a proportionate amount for the service already supplied up to the point of cancellation.
Refund processing
If a refund is approved (whether under statute or at our discretion):
- We aim to process refund requests within 2 business days.
- Paddle will process the refund to your original payment method, typically within 5 to 7 business days (banks and card issuers may take additional time).
Where a statutory refund is due because you validly exercise a cancellation right under Irish or EU consumer law, we will reimburse you without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we are informed of your cancellation, unless the law permits otherwise.
Problems with the Service
If the Service is not working as expected, contact support at hello@speaking.app.
If you are a consumer, you may have statutory rights and remedies regarding digital content and digital services under the Consumer Rights Act 2022, depending on the circumstances.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last Updated" date above when we do.
