What it is
A narrative shape that moves listeners through three connected phases. Setup establishes the people, place, and stakes so the audience knows who to care about. Conflict introduces a complication or obstacle that raises tension and a question the listener wants answered. Resolution shows how it ended and what changed, delivering the point. The arc gives information an emotional through-line, which makes the message easier to follow and recall than a flat list of facts.
Why it works

Listeners engage with stories more readily than with bare facts. Research on narrative transportation (Green and Brock) suggests that when people get absorbed in a story they connect emotionally with its characters and lower their resistance to the message, which tends to make stories more persuasive than a list of claims. When the story is vivid, it can also be more memorable, though that recall benefit is a looser effect than the persuasion one.
